What holds me back

A coaching tool for authors

About this tool

Most books don't stall for lack of talent, but because something quietly gets in the way. This tool helps you name what holds your writing back right now and see, at a glance, what weighs on you most. It's not a test. It's a compass.

How to work with it

  1. For each block, choose a score from 0 to 10 (0 = doesn't weigh on me at all, 10 = weighs on me a great deal).
  2. Add a short note where it helps: what this block sounds like for you, or what would ease it.
  3. Look at the wheel. The bigger the slice, the more that block is carrying right now.
  4. Save it as a session. Next time, see what has grown lighter.

What to look for in the result

  • The block with the highest score — this is usually where to start, not with all of them at once.
  • Whether one block feeds another — perfectionism often hides a fear of judgement; tiredness often hides a lack of clarity.
  • One small step — you don't dissolve a block by force. A single small move, this week, is enough to set things going.

Your data stays on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere.

The wheel is a visualisation. Use the controls below to interact.

One small step

You don't have to lift everything at once. Start with the block that weighs on you most.

Right now, the heaviest block is — rate the blocks above —.
